nice people doing nice things ;]

Have you ever known someone and you just wonder how they can be so amazingly wonderful? Somehow these people just light up the world around them. Instead of complaining and focusing on everything that's wrong with their lives they're focusing on other people, and how to make them happy. I've always wondered what their secret was. When did they get to the point where their focus went outward instead of inward? Correct me if I'm wrong, but they always seem happy and optimistic. It reminds me of something my seminary professor used to say: "the surest way to make yourself unhappy is to only focus on yourself". Its so easy though to sit down and think about everything that's going wrong in your life and everything you wish was different and all of that jazz, but as sickeningly pleasing as that is, it just makes you more and more displeased, and more and more-for lack of a better term-morose.
Let me tell you about my friend, who works at the Sugar and Spice in our school eatery. He is one of the nicest people in the entire world. While he works he does his best to compliment everyone he meets. Like today I was getting ice cream there was a family in front of me, so he complimented the father on his jacket and even when the mother told him that they had dropped some of their cone and had pushed it kind of out of the way his response was just "thank you so much, that's really helpful of you!". And he was so sincere too! Call me scrooge here, but goodness if someone dropped cone on the floor my first reaction would not be to tell them how helpful they are. Now I'm not that terrible of a person that I glare at them or anything but I'd probably say something more like "o that's fine, don't worry about it" but to tell them they're helpful! blows my mind! I just realized I probably sound like some kind of nazi that feels like they have an obligation to decide what kind of actions deserve compliments, but that's really not the point I swear!!! I'm just trying to understand how people can be so good!
But thats just how he is. He's the kind of person who wants everyone to feel beautiful. Like today when I went up to the register and he told me "you know, you're one of the most beautiful people I know, you always look so nice". I know he was kind of stretching things. Almost every time he sees me I have hardly any makeup on and I'm wearing my "I hate life and it's cold outside" outfit. But still, the fact that he cared enough to tell me I looked nice today really made my day. It just makes me think of all of the opportunities I have to tell someone they look nice or that they have a great smile, and I never say anything because I don't know the person, or I'm afraid of sounding insincere. But really what could it hurt? I'm almost positive that no one would be offended if they were to be complimented. Chances are you might make their day, like my friend did for me. A little kindness goes a long way, so I think maybe next time we see someone and we feel a compliment coming on, what the heck- Let it out!

sorry, this talk is really long. But on the bright side, I'll always have a back up relief society lesson to stick in my back pocket for rainy days :]

Pineapple Dole whips

Yo tengo un problemo gigante. firstly, I've had headphones in for at least five minutes and I still haven't started listening to music, and secondly, I've run out of spare contacts. Well, I have one more, for the left eye, but none for the right eye. Worser still, I dont have my glasses with me. See, I left them in my apartment in college and my roomie was supposed to mail them to me but i didn't give her my address untill a few days before she had to leave for mexico. This is yet another example of how the common sense gene must of skipped me. I'm a little afraid that I'm going to go blind, not going to lie. I dropped my contact on the ground twice today because the stupid fans in adventurland dry out my contacts so that when I blink too hard they fall out. But what choice do I have than to put them back in my eyes? Its terrible.

Tommorrow is my program graduation. Whoo hoo!!! I've had a ball, and I really wouldn't mind staying, but I must get on with life and such I suppose. At least I know that If theres nothing for me after graduation, I can fall back on Disneyworld :D.

Nothing else is terribly new. Like I said, I did start working in Adventureland, the Land of the Pineapple Dole Whips, this week though. I love my new costume, even if all of my roomates and co workers say its hideous. I think its freakin awesome. Some day Ill take a picture of myself in it. I must say, I thoroughly enjoy making ice cream for people. I do feel very bad some times when I make one pineapple float huge for one guest, and not so huge for the next. But hey, I'm doing my best and thats what counts right? My armsactually hurt from making so many ice creams, sad huh? A true testimate of how much I need to exercise. The only bad thing about it is that theres no air conditioning, and in the middle of the day, the sun becomes perfectly alligned with the side window, so not only is it hot, but theres a gaint glare off of all of the machines. I admit, at those times I really hate working, and I find it really hard to be enthusiastic about making pinapple floats. Another thing that kind of stinks is that its so hot that pretty much as soon as I give the guests their ice cream it starts melting. I almost feel like I'm ripping them off because their ice cream is almost completly melted in just a few minutes.

I didnt make that pinapple float, but thats what they look like in case you're wondering.

Well I suppose I should go to bed, I do have to go to graduation tommorrow! ttfn!

inception

I just have to say, I love movies. Nothing gives me more pleasure than seeing a good movie every once in a while with some friends. I love how when you see a movie, it's all of a sudden not about you anymore, its about the characters and their lives and the mistakes that they make. I love being able to sit and eat popcorn and know that everything will most likely fix itself in the end. And if it doesn't, shoot, it's not my life anyway, why do I care? Anyways, I was just thinking about this the other day when I went to see the movie Inception with my roomie Tina. It was a very good movie with a plot that blew my mind, though it was quite confusing and had one of those endings that makes you want to scream. The movie really had no relevance to my life or anything, and I really didn't think there was much of a take home lesson to be learned or anything, but as I sat there chewing on my delicious, hot and toasty Wetzel Pretzel I was just savoring the fun and excitement of it all.
Just for kicks and giggles I decided to throw in a few of my most favorite movies to this weird and pointless post. Most of these movies I love, not only because theyre good movies, but because the remind me of the people I was with and the memories we had while I was watching them. Don't judge me on them okay? Keep in mind they're my favorites, so no insulting them either :D Here they are in no particular order:

an overdue update

My roomate just pointed out that I never update my blog, so I suppose I should write something.

Lots of things have happend since I last wrote, nothing too eventfull, but interesting- to me at least- none the less. Since we've last met, I've had close encounters with a dreaded Brazilian tour group, celebrated the Fourth of July Disney style and.... other things, but those are the highlights, or at least the things I remember.

First, the Brazilians... whoo boy! For some reason tour groups are imennsly popular among just Brazilians. Its kind of odd, no other country seem to feel the need to travel together in huge masses or chant louldy whilst walking down the street. Anyways, some coworker of my roomates' gave her some really good advice that I now hold near and dear to my heart and it is this: BEWARE OF BRAZILIAN TOUR GROUPS!!!

So me and this girl named Sheryl were sitting- correction, standing- at the turkey leg cart minding our own business the other day and we see essentialy three trillion girls in purple tank tops from across the way. Ah!!! So many girls! All we really could do is sit and watch with baited breath while quietly begging them not to come over. A few minutes later the whole group had passed us.

"thats right- keep walking!" I told them, when they were far enough not to hear me of course.
Of course this wouldnt be a good story if I didn't end up selling three trillion turkey legs, and thats just what happend. One lady, the leader I presume, or maybe the only one who spoke well enough English, came up a few minutes later and asked to buy 115 turkey legs and 115 cokes. So of course I panicked and ran to the phone at the cart next door and called the kitchen and asked if the turkey leg cart could hold 115 turkey legs. It took a while for the person on the phone to understand that someone wanted to buy 115 turkey legs, and in the end I was just so confused that I had to go back to the turkey leg cart and ask exactly what was going on again. Luckily for us the woman said they'd be back in about fourty-five minutes, so I went back to the phone to tell the kitchen, so we both hung up and I think we were both glad that I wasn't talking. Apparently I dont do well under high stress situations. Fortunatly a few minutes later a manager showed up and we were able to explain it more throughly to him, so that he could make the arrangments.
So at two o'clock they brought out the reinforcements. One giant cooler of coke, and two full trolleys full of turkey legs. Two people from the kitchen, one of our coordinators and our manager all stood at the ready. A few minutes later we saw a big tidal wave of purple coming down on the boardwalk.
"Everybody at the ready!" yelled my manager, or something like that. Like I said, I have short term memory.
Soon they were all in a massive line that stretched down passed the churro cart. If anyone besides a Brazilian wearing a purple shirt wanted a turkey leg, it was pretty much too bad for them. Suprisingly enough we got through the line quite quickly. The two guys from the kitchen wrapped up the legs at warped speed while my manager handed them out, and then they'd get their drinks from my coordinator. I really didn't do anything really. Sheryl and I helped the other non Brazilian guests once the line of the Brazilians got a bit shorter. So really it wasn't too terribly aweful. I deffinatly learned that I don't do well when I'm panicking though.

My Fourth of July was pretty good. I really wasnt homesick till I was sitting at church and we started singing America the Beautiful. See, when I was a kid, we used to rent this movie with Haley Mills in it called Polyanna, and in that movie shes dressed like a flag and sings America the Beautiful, and at the part where she sings "and crown thy good with brotherhood" she says "brotherhood" in some kind of special way that me, my brother and sister all found funny. So from the time we watched that movie, which was probably at least ten years ago, till now, whenever we sing that song we sing it Polyanna style. So when I was sitting in church and the "crown thy good with brotherhood" part came up, I had to fight the urge to sing polyanna style really hard, lest my roomates and heck, the rest of the congregation, gave me weird looks. Just so you can know what I'm talking about I have posted the link:

Other than that, my holiday was just like a normal day. The only thing different was that the park was incredibly crowded and loads of people were all wearing red white and blue. It was actually really cool to see. While I was greeting at Diamond Horseshoe I got to watch as people from all kinds of races walked around with flags and american colors on their shirts. Thats one of the best things about America, I think. We really are what you would call a Melting Pot.
Another thing about working Fourth of July is that for some reason the guests decided that the most patriotic thing they could eat to celebrate Fourth of July was a Turkey leg. When I got to the wagon there were two cashiers and a filler, and about an hour later we had to bring in another filler because our lines were so long. It was crazy! We never had no guests in line.
I did get to see a little bit of the special fireworks that they had for the holiday from the gap in the trees by the wagon, and they seemed like they were really neat. Maybe some day I'll get to see them for reals.

Honestly I think this post is long enough, so I'm going to end it here. From now on I'm going to try and write about things as they happen and not wait weeks and weeks till I forget all of the details. So for those of you who say I dont update my blog- Take that!

Shmola!

I really feel like I should have alot to write about, but really I cant think of squat. I could talk about work but really it's not really that interesting. Everyday, or every day I work that is, I go to the Magic Kingdom, and 5 minutes before I have to start working I pick up an assignment. Usually I am sent right on one of the locations, like the churro cart or Westward Ho, but there are some exceptions, like yesterday when I had to make a trash run for the kitchen. Ew. Actually It wasnt too bad. Most of the trash was cardboard boxes which you have to load into this bailer thingy that smooshes the boxes down for you. There were at least three giant bags of trash though, and somehow they got all wet from the nasty trash juice that was swimming at the bottum of the big dumpster on wheels I was bringing the trash in. EW! and I'm pretty sure nasty crap from the ceiling was dripping on me too. Ew ew ew ew ew! Luckily I dont have to do that too often. Or at least I hope not.

Okay, due to my ultimate slackerishness I am now writing on a new day.

Other than random trash runs I really like my job. Every day I get to watch several different parades, and depending on what spot I'm working at, I get to see a few hoedowns as well. Parades are nice because during them no one seems to want food, so I get to stand by my cart and watch as Mickey and all of the Disney Princesses go by. Pretty neat right? The nighttime Spectromagic parade here is amazing! Its all of the disney characters with lights on them, so its one colorful neon explosion! That one is nice to see when you're closing down your cart and cleaning up, another one of my least favorite things to do. But I must get used to closing every night because I'm a CP and CPs get all of the reject hours no one wants.

Things on the home front are marvelous as well. I love all of my roomates to death, and we all get along wonderfully. I've been lucky to have good roomates both in school and now. Some of my coworkers have told me horror stories about how other peoples roomates have been found doing illegal things and therefore get themselves and their roomates terminated from the program and it just makes me very glad that I will never have to live with people that could ruin everything for me.

Well thats pretty much it for now...ttfn!

I only hope that we don't lose sight of one thing- that it was all started by a mouse.

Hmm... I'm not sure how good I'll be at this whole blogging thing. I never could keep up with my journal, even though its as cute as a button.

Anyways I guess since I'm going to keep up this blog to document my adventures at Disney World I suppose thats where I should start.

So many things have happend in one week, its kind of crazy! I cant believe that less than one week ago I was stressing over finals. Time flies! Now I am here sitting in my new apartment waiting to go to walgreens, exciting times for me :).

The only bad thing about this whole setup is that my best Singaporean friend Cheryl is not here to join me. Its taking all of my energy not to complain for pages and pages about the people who work in both the international students office and the disney company who wouldnt help her. I've already complained about them in my journal though. Like they say, "temper tantrums, no matter how fun they are to throw, rarely solve anything". Cheryl I think is taking the news much better than I am though. She for one, at least I dont think, has not planned on writing anonymous hate mail. I did vent my frustrations on my english text book that i could not sell back. I figured that since I don't like English and I don't like mean people, destroying my book was a good option.

Well thats as much as I'm going to say on that issue. Even though I'm mad at some Disney people right now, its apparently not enough to stop me from working for them.

Wow, this post will probably be super long. Should you feel the need to stop reading-by all means feel free. I will not be upset, how could i be? I woulnt be able to tell. Now I shall start at the beggining starting saturday.

After a lovely dinner with Ms. Emily Dekam and the popster I went home to pack up the apartment and do my cleaning check. Well at ten oclock the next day, and an hour before we were supposed to leave mind you, i finished my cleaning and packing. Then popster and I were off to the airport. The first flight was pretty uneventful, and so was the wait for my next plane in denver BUT on the plane to Orlando I just so happend to sit next to two girls from BYU Idaho who were going to the program too! Its a small world after all!
On Monday was sign in and all that jazz. Nothing too exciting. I met my new roomies, who all seem pretty awesome as of now. I also ended roomies with the girls I met on the plane! I have five other roommates. Two from Washington, Lela and Eden, two from Utah, the ones I met on the plane Tina and Breanna and one from California, my room roommate Alyssa. The apartment is pretty nice as well. The only thing that’s awful is the shower. I shall include pictures…someday.
Wednesday was Traditions which was basically talking about safty and fun stuff. Mickey did come visit us to give us our nametags, haha I feel so legit.
Today I had training. Training here is kind of fun though. We took about a two hour tour of the Magic Kingdom and rode a few rides and defeated the emperor Zurg! Wow I use way too many exclamation marks. I also got my costumes which are okay I guess. I’m pretty sure they’ve been using the same outfits since 1970 though. I have extreme front buttness though but I’ll be in a stand so who will see me right?
Tomorrow I get a day off so we’re all going to Experimental Protocol Community Of Tomorrow. Yesterday we went to the animal kingdom and got there just in time to see Simba’s parade- which was awesome!!!! I love seeing safari mickey! We also went on the safari, which was cool but we had the most monotone tourguide ever. Two white rhinos seemed like they were going to start fighting right in front of our jeep too! I was scared but the driver didn’t seem to think anything was wrong, and eventually they moved, so that was kind of anticlimactic.
Well that’s about it for now. Next stop, EPCOT for a mickey shaped ice cream.

nothing noteworthy

Hello everyone! This is my very first blog, so bear with me on this one. I have never prized myself on my writing abilities- in fact I detest english. Well I suppose I should rephrase that. I detest writing papers, especially if its somthing I could care less about. But enough griping for goodness sakes!

Anywho... I started this blog to please my dear roomate Emily, though I must admit this is one of the better ideas she's had ;). The reason we're doing this is because this summer we will each be going our separate ways. I'm off to work at Disney World with my other roomie Cheryl, and Emily is off to change the lives of the people in Mexico. So since we're probably going to be super (say with spanish accent) busy we decided to set up blogs to keep up on what we're doing. My blog will probably be boring as heck, but if you want to read about someone interesting heres Emily's blog http://www.emilyae-hui.blogspot.com/ .

Well I'm off to increase the size of my waistline. Untill next time!
